Even after all these years I still get excited over the movie Braveheart. The tragedy and triumph, the act of laying yourself down for something you believe in so much that life itself is worth losing. When I find someone who has not seen Braveheart, I make it my mission to make it their next movie night. 'No, you don't understand. It's the best movie ever. You have to see this. Here's five bucks for your iTunes rental. I'll be over at 7 with popcorn and half of my face painted blue.'
“For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!”
— 1 Corinthians 9:16The Gospel of Jesus Christ without the passion of a transformed heart is just a news story read from a teleprompter.
“We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:20Do you really believe Jesus is the best thing you have ever experienced?
If yes, there is nothing anyone could do to stop you from telling people about Him and the amazing things He has done in your life. Anyone with a heart on fire for God will share the gospel. They can't hold back the passion of the best story ever.
When I first met Jesus I was the shotgun Christian who recklessly sprayed 'my' gospel on every person around me. I did a better job of causing people to avoid me than attracting people to Jesus. I was passionate, on fire and Jesus was the best thing I had ever experienced.
Over time God has refined my ability to share my faith. I went from a shotgun to a sniper. The passion to share the gospel has not changed but the restraint of when and how I share has. I am compelled to share the best story my heart has ever known. But God has refined the package in which it is delivered.
Do you believe Jesus is the best thing you have ever experienced? If your answer is hesitant, what is holding you back from that level of conviction?
